For the following
essay, there is a selected leader. This leader can be a real life character or
a fictional character from television, movies, or a book. Using leadership
theories, we will analyze the selected character to identify its
characteristics and provide specific examples of the qualities that we think
this person possess that make him admirable.
Also the personal
leadership style will be evaluated, identifying their own leadership
characteristics, explaining our style of leadership, ideas and plans to improve
our effectiveness as a leader based on a comparative contrast with the selected
leader.
Selected
Leader: Salvador Allende Parsi, Chile's
first president to be elected democratically
Characteristics
and examples of the qualities that made him a leader
There
are countless stories that took place in commemoration of its pass away 40
years ago. In many of them, the contrast is total between moral smallness
Pinochet and Allende 's historic debates, to tie biographies and trajectories .
But in almost all repeats a strange and mysterious word "charisma",
in this case associated with Allende.
What do
we mean, and transmit with this word? What can we exactly mean this word when we
speak of Allende as someone who was truly "charismatic"? The sociology
wants, and thinks he sees in the exceptional attributes of charisma remarkable on
men and women, such as courage, wisdom, heroism or beauty. Well, charisma is
something else.
It is
important to emphasize that charisma is not, as the occasion of the
commemoration of the coup, but also of the presidential campaign, there are
many who talk very seriously about the charisma of Allende. If everyone have charisma and own it, then
nothing is, then we are forced to face with an uncontrolled use of the notion.
Contrary
to all appearances, charisma is not an innate attribute fact: not because someone
can speak well and move you to tears, or did others noted for their courage or
beauty that can be spoken of as charismatic leaders. In other words, charisma
is not an essence or a nature that only a few can claim. It is for this reason
that it is possible to say that Pinochet could benefit from beliefs of many
Chileans (amnesic today) on the providential nature of his performance: speak
well or not because it was beautiful, but because his actions today took place
in a time of crisis and made sense.
At some
point, there is something wrong stated in the phrase "the charisma of
Allende", as it evokes the idea of something that is uniquely possessed,
and that would be precisely what makes extraordinary the person who claims it.
Why is it possible to speak of the "charisma" of Allende? Not because
Salvador Allende, the citizen, had natural gifts as an orator and leader. He had
both attributes, but that is not the most important. What constitutes its
greatness and that gave rise to myths and legends (starting by the way as he
would have died , committed suicide to many, killed for others…) , is his
performance on a critical day . While Allende’s charisma originates in the
experimental context of a revolutionary form of socialism by legal means, which
nourishes him is his long political career (with the image of his famous "
doll " and praised bargaining), the depth of the process of change that he
urged the opposition and harsh reaction that popular legitimacy that surrounded
him and can be seen displayed in some documentaries (Joignant, 2013). In this
regard, the charisma of Allende has little or nothing to do with his personal
attributes, since it refers primarily to a time when life converges learns a
politician (with all its contradictions and successes), the critical nature of
a date and a revolutionary process that inflamed the imagination of many.
Own leadership characteristics,
contrast with the selected leader and ideas to improve our leadership abilities
Are the events, and the facts, the phenomena which
produce extraordinary role of a "charismatic" leadership. Therefore,
the charisma has nothing to do with empathy, with the connection that a person
can have with a group or community. These qualities are necessary, but not
sufficient. It requires much more. The Charisma in any case, has to do with the
security that inspires the person and therefore it is generating trust (Mercedes,
2011).
I consider myself a charismatic leader for my actions and
my decisions. I attract my co-workers and I become a motivator that convinces
and moves with my tone of voice, and body language as a capacity. Also, the
need to promote a vision and a dream for my company or organization at all
times. Challenge, expectation, reality and realization, are the main
characteristics of my type of leadership. Therefore, it is a change agent that synthesizes
the stairs of the challenge, for better or worse, in a society at a given time
(Mercedes, 2011).
For Stephen Robbins, the charismatic leadership theory is
an “heroic attribution or extraordinary skill to leadership when followers
observe certain behaviors." Produces charismatic leaders, and organization
societies in difficult times, when they are faced with enormous challenges to
their survival. If we look over the past
40 years (Kennedy , Salvador Allende , Fidel Castro , Nelson Mandela , Bosch,
Balaguer , Peña Gomez) mankind has produced charismatic leaders , however , no
doubt that given the global social crisis that we have today, is sheltered on
the horizon the emergence of this extraordinary leadership, that beyond the
subjectivity in its conceptualization, is the one that takes the difficult
moments of history in every society (Mercedes , 2011) .
What we want to
emphasize is that charismatic leadership brings with it a momentous event and
how that human being was assumed for the story, a fact which marks the person
and the country where it occurs.
That charismatic
leadership is given by the transcendental challenge of a society or an
organization at a particular time. Beyond the personal qualities I have, is the
severity of a given situation or a deep insight regarding society, equality or
fighting for the rights of humanity.
To learn Charisma means learning to attract others with
my body language, attire as by my words, and tone of voice, is the set of myself
and improve my charisma to the maximum means the maximum improve of me.
Once a person combines charisma with leadership then they
gets unstoppable charismatic leadership to lead and ultimately make the persons
follow him.
Leadership is an art and choosing a leader or not, not
only chose it for its leadership, but largely by his charisma. Therefore it is
very important to have leadership and charisma, because charisma which greatly
facilitates follows you and respect your decisions and leadership still makes
you know the right direction and indicate how. Both tools are extremely
effective and charismatic leader leadership literally “eat with potatoes” any
other leader.
